  • 32.1% are living below poverty level

When it comes to the list of the happiest states in the country, West Virginia takes the very last spot out of all 50 states. This could be because the state has the most overdose deaths per capita and is number four on the list for the state with the highest depression rate. Or, it could also be because West Virginia has the highest percentage of its population living at or below the poverty level.
