The Best Bed and Breakfasts in Villa Coyoacán

For all its historical import and educational value, Coyoacán isn't necessarily as geared to tourists in the same way that some of the other boroughs are. Unlike the boutique hotels of Roma or the business-traveler havens of Polanco, hotels aren't an essential part of the Coyoacán experience. However, there is a healthy selection of bed and breakfasts and several nice hostels, most of which seem to run out of converted residences. We've tried to include a variety of options here, but we'd recommend a B&B for an optimal stay in Coyoacán.

Fiesta Inn Periférico Sur

Fiesta Inn is located just south of the University, near the Perisur shopping mall. It's a bit of a business-oriented hotel. There's an indoor pool, free Wi-Fi, and a breakfast buffet. It's also a fully non-smoking hotel, which isn't necessarily a guarantee in Mexico City. There are a few different levels of accommodation, including a junior suite, and most of the rooms boast great views of the city. Reviews are split on how convenient the location is or isn't, but obviously that's down to why you're in town. If you're here for the university, you're in a really good place.

La Casa de Todos

When Leon Trotsky was exiled from Russia, he stayed at La Casa Azul as a guest of Frida Kahlo's during the brief span she lived with Diego Rivera. Obviously, staying at La Casa Azul isn't an option for you, but La Casa de Todos is, and it's very close by. This cozy bed and breakfast offers five rooms, each themed after a different Mexican flower and each facing an interior garden. The rooms range from $65-75 per night.

Hostal Cuija Coyoacán

Of course, this is a hostel and not a hotel, so the amenities are a bit different, but people who choose to spend time at Hostal Cuija typically wind up loving it. You can get a private bed and bath, or you can get a bed in a shared room. The place is decidedly homey, with a shared kitchen and free access to computers in addition to the free Wi-Fi. Breakfast is served in the morning, and guests frequently praise the calm, quiet atmosphere, even in the already calm, quiet atmosphere of Coyoacán. This one's a great value for the money, as long as you're willing to stay in a hostel.

Pug Seal Boutique

Another bed and breakfast, Pug Seal offers warm hospitality, free Wi-Fi, a full Mexican breakfast, and even a bit of complimentary tequila in the afternoons. Guests are free to use the kitchen if they're inclined to cook their dinners and breakfasts. Eight rooms are all uniquely decorated, usually in white or grey with a vibrant accent color. Some offer a balcony or terrace, and all of them include the use of the B&B's terrace. The rooms seem to float around $125 per night, which is a little pricier than some of the other options in the neighborhood, but guest satisfaction seems to indicate that it's well worth it.
