South Africa Wildlife Safaris

One of the most popular activities for anyone visiting South Africa is to embark on an African safari. The chance to see some of the world's most fascinating wildlife from the safety of a vehicle is an experience you just can't beat; on the other hand, there are so many safaris offered that it can be difficult to know which ones are legitimate and which ones aren't. It takes experience to know what safari is the best to go on. Here are five of the best.

  1. Madikwe Game Reserve

The Madikwe Game Reserve is a protected area where numerous species of animals are able to live in relative protection against poachers and other threats. It's also a fantastic place for you to see some of the strangest animals in the world. Open year round, the Madikwe Game Reserve offers accommodation in the form of hotels, guest houses, or at the acclaimed Waybury House. There are 3 day tours available to give you plenty of time to see all the animals; some endangered species, such as the wild dog and black rhinoceros can be seen here.

  2. The Bush House

The Bush House is a "hide," a place where guests can stay and watch animals in their natural environments without disturbing them. This makes it one of the most authentic locations from which to monitor Africa's majestic wildlife; access to the hide is underground, but the tunnel itself is perfectly safe and secure. The Hide is open all year, allowing guests the ability to see animals such as elephants, giraffes, and other creatures in their normal, natural habitats.

  3. Addo Main Camp

While self-guided safaris offer several benefits over guided tours, there are a few things to keep in mind. You are more at risk on a self guided tour than on a guided tour, so you must show caution. The Addo Main Camp is a self guided tour that is open all year long. You travel through the grounds on the back of an ATV, and it's an excellent location to visit to watch elephants play.

  4. Molopo Kalahari Lodge

The Molopo Kalahari Lodge is found inside the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and offers 36 rooms for guests to stay in. While it's luxurious enough, the real attraction lies in the number of antelope, wildebeest, lion, and other wildlife that can be seen within the park. It's suitable for children, and is open all throughout the year.

  5. Kwandwe Uplands Homestead

If you prefer privacy and high-class, the Kwandwe Uplands Homestead is the place to go. Located in a 1905 farmhouse, the Kwandwe Uplands Homestead allows guests the ability to go out on private African safaris in an open-topped vehicle. It's open year round and is perfectly suitable for young children. It also allows guests to feel like they are living alone in the wilderness, although they're accompanied by a ranger, tracker, and chef.
