Mexico City's Best Colonia Cuauhtémoc Hotels

The hotels in Colonia Cuauhtémoc are an interesting mix. On the one hand, the neighborhood is nestled in between trendy residential neighborhoods and the city's historic center—there's a lot around to draw tourists. On the other hand, the district itself mostly holds a couple of embassies and some financial offices. That leaves you with an interesting blend of tourist-oriented and business-geared hotels in a small space.

  1. The St. Regis Mexico City
From the Deluxe Room to the posh St. Regis Suite, the St. Regis Mexico City offers a wide variety of accommodations, but none of them are for budget travelers. Even the basic room includes 24-hour butler service and a 12-inch mirror LCD TV in the bathroom.  The St. Regis suite has two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, living and dining rooms, and more. It's basically a 3,000 square-foot apartment with a panoramic view of the city. Daily tea and Champagne rituals await guests before they retire to their rooms, typically done up in neutral palettes with accents of greens and purples. A children's club provides supervised activities for kids during the day, and a 30-foot heated pool on the 15th floor lets you enjoy the view in the utmost comfort. There are also two whirlpools nearby, if you prefer. Curiously, free Wi-Fi is not included in the midst of the other amenities.

  2. Eurostars Suites Reforma
Eurostars Suites is a good, mid-range hotel option. The hotel has 36 junior suites across a few tiers, including one that includes free Wi-Fi and non-alcoholic minibar. The hotel offers the familiar comforts and trappings of a hotel stay—coffeemaker, hair dryer, safety deposit box, and a free breakfast buffet—without quite being the intense costly experience of the more expensive places in the neighborhood.

  3. Sheraton Maria Isabel Hotel & Towers
The Sheraton Maria Isabel is located just a few steps away from the Angel of Independence and offers 755 rooms and suites. The nicer amenities kick in for SPG members and include free Wi-Fi, complimentary bottled water, breakfast, and more in the club lounge. Curiously, the fitness center is included in this upgraded tier. Guests frequently call out the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

  4. Hotel Bristol
Hotel Bristol is a great value option, located towards the side of Cuauhtémoc nearest Centro Histórico. You can book rooms for as low as $35 per night, depending on the site you use, and while the place is relatively no-frills, you can't beat it for the price. Promotions include a free third night or a discounted breakfast, so it's worth checking out their website for deals.

  5. Hotel Casa Gonzalez
You can get a room at Hotel Casa Gonzalez for under $45 a night, and yet that's not necessarily the draw here. Casa Gonzalez has been a family-run business for four generations. The place was built in 1920 and has been a hotel since the 1930s. They position themselves as a quiet oasis, away from the bustle of the city. It's true—being near the embassy, the neighborhood tends to be pretty quiet. But it's also a couple of blocks from Zona Rosa and close to plenty of other Mexico City sights. It's worth noting that Casa Gonzalez has free Wi-Fi that guests regularly rave about, which isn't a given, even in swanky hotels, even though it's 2016.
