With all there is to do in San Antonio, it's a great destination for a family vacation, but finding a hotel that's both nice enough to feel like a vacation and fun enough to keep the kids happy can be a challenge. From River Walk getaways to full-on resorts, here are some of San Antonio's best hotels for families.
Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk
Drury Plaza is a great blend of gorgeous architecture and a comfortable laid-back attitude. Many nice hotels have a wine hour at night, and while you can get wine at this social hour, you can also get chicken strips, mac and cheese, hot dogs, and more. These offerings will definitely keep the kids happy and full long enough for the adults go to a nice restaurant for a little while. Formerly a bank, the hotel is located right on the river, with a footbridge crossing. The rooftop pool and whirlpool are great places to relax after a long day of walking. This isn't an expansive resort, but with everything there is to do downtown, you don't necessarily need it to be.
Omni La Mansion del Rio
Also located along the River Walk, near the San Antonio Zoo & Aquarium, Omni La Mansion del Rio is a great getaway for families. The hotel blends Spanish colonial architecture with European style for a tasteful, charming look that fits right into the Texas setting. Rooms range from petite 250-square-foot rooms for solo travelers to enormous suites with private balconies. There's a kid's program that includes snacks and games, as well as a heated courtyard pool. Plus, grown-ups can head over to the spa at the nearby Mokara Hotel.
Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa
This high-end resort is located near SeaWorld San Antonio and Government Canyon, but you might not want to leave. Accommodations range from straightforward hotel rooms to the Sunday House villa, which includes access to a private spa pool, a stocked kitchen, and a personal golf cart. The spa is housed in a luxury facility with a rough-hewn, barn-like exterior that blends into the Texas Hill Country landscape. The 27 holes of golf include four sets of tee placements for all skill levels, and the five-acre water park has a wave machine, water slide, three pools, two outdoor whirlpools, and a lazy river.
La Cantera Hill Country Resort
Rather than sit on the River Walk, La Cantera is located near the Shops at La Cantera and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Rooms, suites, and cottages are done up in Texas motifs, from stucco exteriors and wooden doors of the casitas to the ranch-style decor of the suites. The golf resort offers 36 holes, including an Arnold Palmer course, and the Woodhouse Spa can help you unwind afterward. Nine restaurants and bars offer a wide range of dining experiences. Room service is available too, but trading out the view from your room for the view from the restaurants' enormous windows is probably worth it.
JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa
This enormous resort is an all-encompassing family vacation unto itself. Parents have plenty of choices to occupy their time: seven restaurants, 36 holes of golf by Pete Dye and Greg Norman, a 30-room spa with steam, massages, and fitness classes, and an adults-only infinity pool. There's a "Range Riders Kid's Club" for children ages 4 to 12, plus glow-in-the-dark games for teenagers at the tennis courts at night. Don't forget the 6-acre water park with a lazy river, waterslides, and pool.
