15 Destinations Not Worth Your Money

Mt. Rushmore

Mt. Rushmore

Mt. Rushmore is about as American as it gets. A giant statue of the most American of the Americans? Yes, please.

But don’t go out of your way for it. It’s probably bigger on your computer. If you happen to be visiting the area, then sure, swing by. If not, you’ll walk out and see some faces on the mountain that are small in the distance. Then you’ll get bored. Sure, it’s an amazing feat that it was done, but it’s not worth your time.

London, England

London, England

Some people like gloomy weather, but most people are sane. London happens to be gloomy, so don’t worry about visiting if you have an affinity for blue skies.

Plus, the exchange rate between the American dollar and the British pound will make it seem like everything is extremely expensive.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge

Honestly, it’s amazing and mysterious that the rocks are there. But it’s more mysterious to read about why it's mysterious than to stand by a relatively small collection of boring rocks.

You’ll learn that you can’t even get close to the rocks when you get there. After you’ve stood around for a few minutes, you’ll realize that there’s not much else to do at Stonehenge.

Loch Ness

Loch Ness

Everybody wants to see Nessie. Sure, nobody has ever actually seen her, but we all want to be the first. She’s (probably) not real, though. Well, according to the scientists.

Even if she were, she’d definitely be hiding from the hordes of tourists looking for her. And if she were to emerge, you wouldn’t want to be there. She is a dinosaur, after all, and we’ve all seen Jurassic Park.

Aspen, CO

Aspen, CO

Americans love to go skiing on their vacations. Everybody seems to flock to Aspen, though. The city is overrated. The ski routes are crowded, and the city hikes its prices for tourists.

If you’re set on Colorado, visit Wolf Creek instead, a resort that claims to have the most snow in Colorado. Don’t forget about other states, though. The Northeast has plenty of resorts, as does Utah, New Mexico, and Michigan, to name a few.

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World, often dubbed "the happiest place on Earth," may not justify its high costs and long wait times. The overwhelming crowds can detract from the experience, making it difficult to enjoy attractions without lengthy delays.

Additionally, the steep admission prices, coupled with expensive food and merchandise, can strain your budget. The hassle and expense do not match the anticipated magic, leaving expectations unmet.

Dublin, Ireland

Dublin, Ireland

People flock to Dublin for the Irish culture and the Guinness Museum. Dublin’s not very Irish anymore, though. It’s a tourist trap.

If you’re looking to experience Irish culture at its finest, Dublin is not the place for you. Try Kinsale instead. It’s the gourmet food capital of the country, and you’re sure to enjoy the town and beer far more than you would in Dublin.

Memphis, TN

Memphis, TN

Memphis is proud of being the home of the blues and Elvis, but nobody listens to that anymore.

The city is as stale as that music is now. Plus, Beale Street is about the only attraction, and even calling it that is a stretch. Skip this city for Nashville, which is a few hours east.

Miami, FL

Miami, FL

If you like humidity and clubs, Miami is the place for you. For the rest of us, it’s worth passing up.

There’s not much culture in Miami other than Spring Break Culture. Miami is great for people who have just turned 21 and want to do things they won’t remember.

Rome, Italy

Rome, Italy

Rome is beautiful. There’s no doubt about that. Sadly, everybody knows that. The Colosseum alone receives four million visitors each year.

The museums are full of iconic works, too, but they are also swamped with people.  If you’re itching for a colosseum, visit Italy’s northern city of Verona. It’s also full of museums stacked full of beautiful art pieces.

Las Vegas, NV

Las Vegas, NV

Vegas is great if you have money you would like to just throw away. If you do have that kind of money, talk to somebody. Anybody. They’ll probably take the money you don’t want.

Remember, almost nobody but the house wins when gambling, so try your hand at something else.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

Hollywood Walk of Fame

If you’re dead set on visiting L.A., go ahead, but skip the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Those stars with celeb’s names on them? They look almost the same as their pictures.

The big difference is that in reality, there are tourists and street performers standing on them. The stars aren’t worth it.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali, Indonesia

Once, Bali was labelled a hidden gem. Since then, it’s been discovered by way too many people.

It’s such a tourist trap that you’ll probably only find other tourists and pickpockets. You’ll only see your destination when you crane your neck around your fellow tourists.

The Bahamas

The Bahamas

The Bahamas are the island vacation for the east coast of the states, but it’s not worth it.

Look at the Hotel of Atlantis, for example. Sure, it’s breathtaking, but your wallet will be empty in a heartbeat. They’ll bleed you dry. Go somewhere you won’t have to stress about money the whole time.

Four Corners Monument

Four Corners Monument

You know the Four Corners Monument? The place where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah meet? Yeah, standing in all four states is about as exciting as standing pretty much anywhere else.

Well, as long as that place is miles from civilization with no cell-service or toilets. The Monument sure doesn’t have those.
