Where to Travel Now for the Best Dollar Conversion Rate

While there are places in the world where the dollar doesn’t stretch very far (such as Europe), there are some areas where the dollar goes much further. Dollar exchange rates change, so it’s important to take advantage of these rates while they last. Here are the top locations where you can stretch your travel dollars.

Japan
So things haven't been going well for the Japanese yen, but that’s good for us. It’s dropped considerably, and now you can get nearly 113 yen for one dollar. Granted, Japan is still on the higher side if you do choose to visit, but the yen hasn’t been this low for two years. The tourism market is causing the yen to boom once again, so get going while you can! In comparison, a 2-liter bottle of Coca-Cola is around 240 yen in Tokyo, which is only around $2.14 for the USD—cheaper than some places in America.

Tehran, Iran
Most people will tell you to avoid Tehran, the capital of Iran. Some have called it hot, smoggy, and all concrete, but listening to them would be a mistake. The city is exquisite. It has a treasury of national jewels you can view and two fantastic parks, Darakeh and Darband. Plus, the dollar stretches a long way there. For a single dollar, you can receive over 30,000 rials. If that number sounds like a lot, you’re correct. As an example, you can get a 2-liter of Coca-Cola for $0.87 USD.

Indonesia
Indonesia is more than Bali. This beautiful island has plenty more to offer in scenery than the beach, such as the Ubud Monkey Island, Uluwatu Temple, and Prambanan. The rich history of this country would keep you more than entertained. Whether you’re looking for a white sandy beach or breathtaking forests and temples, you’ll be happy to know that the Indonesian rupiah goes quite a distance. In Bali, one of the most expensive areas in Indonesia, you can get a 2-liter Coca-Cola for $1.31 USD, or 17,511 rupiah. The better news is that the rupiah is still on a decline, so you’ll be able to get even more per dollar in the future.

Colombia
We all know Colombia has beautiful women, but there is so much more in this country. Aside from the many incredible historical museums, there is also amazing scenery, such as the Walled City of Cartagena, Laguna de Guatape, and Salt Cathedral. Colombia seems to have it all—beaches, history, culture, food, mountains, and wildlife. If you’re wondering how far your dollar will go, you’ll be pleased. For only $1.16 USD in Bogota, you can get a 2-liter bottle of Coca-Cola, which is 3,830 pesos.

Astana, Kazakhstan
Dubbed the “world’s weirdest capital city” by CNN, it’s easy to say Astana is unique. Located in Kazakhstan, Astana is surrounded by smaller towns and has buildings that look as though they’re from another world. There are also several awe-inspiring architectural structures. From Khan Shatyr to the dozens of museums, you’ll love this place. The American dollar also trades for several hundred Kazakhstani tenge. A 2-liter Coca-Cola is around 232 tenge, or around $0.66 USD.
