Business Class: Domestic Flights

When it comes to air travel, money talks in regards to comfort. While all airlines classify their specific tickets differently, business class is considered an upgrade for all, yet it is still generally a step below first class seating. This does not mean, however, that all airlines offer the same perks in regards to what an upgrade means. For many airlines, a more expensive ticket will determine seating, meal choices, and access to special amenities at airports.

Benefits

One of the main benefits of business class is roomier seats. The exact type of seat does vary by airline, but the goal of each seat type is more room. In general, economy class seats are designed to maximize space to hold the greatest number of people. In business class, the goal shifts somewhat to allow for fewer people in the section. With fewer seats in one area, the seats are generally larger and more comfortable than those in economy.

Another aspect of business class are the meals, which typically includes more options and snacks. Depending on the airline, this could mean the inclusion of more gourmet cuisine, or it could mean additional options to choose from included with the overall ticket price. However the meal options for business class are presented, the meals are often tastier.

At the Terminal

While onboard business class benefits are great, the benefits actually begin in the airport. Those who have a more expensive ticket typically receive expedited check-in. Most airlines provide a dedicated check-in area just for business class ticket holders, thus allowing for less wait time. Along with expedited check-in, some airlines also offer quicker service through security at larger airports. In addition, passengers are typically among the first to board a flight.

Upon arriving at the destination airport, business class passengers often receive preferential treatment for baggage claim. Many airlines ensure the luggage for passengers in higher classes is the first to arrive at the carousel. Often waiting for checked luggage can be one of the most frustrating aspects of flying, especially if the flight is the final leg of a trip. Being among the first passengers to receive checked luggage makes getting through the airport a more pleasant experience.

Business class benefits do vary by airline, and sometimes also by the length of flight. Options available on an hour and a half flight will obviously differ from those on a six hour cross-country flight. Prior to flying with any airline it is very important to review what the airline is offering business class ticket holders. This review will help ensure expectations are accurate based on what is truly being offered. Once the actual benefits for a specific flight have been determined, though, it is time to relax and enjoy your travel.
