The small, affluent town of Paradise Valley is sandwiched in between Phoenix and Scottsdale. With a median household income of $173,487, it seems most residents spend their time at one of the eight full-service resorts within the community getting spa treatments or playing golf.

If you guessed the wealthiest city in California was in the Silicon Valley area, then you guessed correctly! Lying at the midway point between San Francisco and San Jose, the city is one of the wealthiest in the entire country (not just the state!) with a median household income of $250,001. The US Census Bureau doesn't spend time calculating exact numbers higher than that amount.

Cherry Hills Village is one of Denver's southern suburbs. Not only is Cherry Hills Village a leader in median household income ($224,125), it's also a leader in city regulations on drone piloting and usage.

Weston may be a town in Connecticut, but the Connecticut Economic Resource Center estimates that a full one-fifth of the town commutes to and works in New York City. Though it has a high median household income, there is a distinct gender gap. For men, median income is just over $220,000. For women, median income is only $95,500.

Henlopen Acres only has about 138 residents, but, as part of the Rehoboth Beach area, the community swells in the summer months thanks to its Atlantic Beach location. In fact, only about a third of Henlopen Acres homes are lived in year-round. The area's location probably increases home values which might have something to do with the median household income being $158,750.

About 45 minutes north of West Palm Beach, Jupiter Island occupies a skinny strip of barrier island on Florida's Atlantic Coast. It seems to be a golfer's paradise, with homeowners including Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, and Rickie Fowler. Maybe that's why the median household income is $248,750.

If you guessed the most affluent city in Iowa was around the capital Des Moines, you'd be wrong. Robins is just north of Cedar Rapids. The quaint community of 3,434 has a median household income of $119,583.

Mission Hills abuts the Kansas-Missouri border and is just south of the Kansas City metro area. It was planned by J.C. Nichols who was one of the pioneers of the modern "suburban" planning development in the early 1900s. Today Mission Hills has a median household income of $246,528.

Northwest of downtown Louisville, Glenview is just outside of the I-264 circle. With a median age of 53.6, it's well on its way to becoming a Boomer retirement community. It makes sense, then, that its median household income is $223,438.

Shenandoah is just outside the city boundaries of Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana. The area is right at 20,000 residents and has a median household income of $86,511.

Cumberland Foreside (the coastal portion of the Cumberland community) is just north of Portland, Maine's most populous city. It's home to one of the state's largest agricultural fairs, as well as apple orchards. Median household income in the zip code is $157,607.

Chevy Chase Village is technically a part of the D.C. metro area, but the municipality lines are technically on the Maryland side of the D.C.-Maryland border. If it isn't the wealthiest community in the country, it's definitely rivaling for the top spot. Median household income according to the US Census Bureau is $250,001 (the threshold at which they stop calculating definitive numbers).

Just outside the Yankee Division Highway that circles Boston, Weston is among the most expensive areas in the country. The town had just under 11,300 residents while its similarly-sized neighbor of Newtown had over 89,000. The houses here take up much more room. Median household income was over $230,000.

Bloomfield Hills is located in Detroit's extreme northern suburbs. The city's boundary lines also make a perfect rectangle in an almost too-perfectly-planned fashion. The median household income here is $169,265. Compared that to Detroit's $28,099.
