Family Fun in New Orleans

New Orleans is famous for Mardi Gras parades, but there is much more to the city than that one attraction. New Orleans is great for family fun and entertainment as well. There are many local attractions for people of all ages to enjoy, not to mention the great restaurants that the area has to offer.

Attractions

The city has so many local attractions and activities for families, but it is near impossible to list them all. Whether you are interested in sea life or amusements parks, there is something there for everyone.

Carousel Gardens Amusement Park

Carousel Gardens Amusement Park is exactly what it sounds like. The amusement park houses some of the world’s most famous carousel rides. Many of the rides have hand-carved horses and seats. The rides are all family friendly and great for the smaller children while the older children are enjoying rides, such as the Tilt-a-Whirl. General admission is only $3, but that will not get you on all of the rides. Paying $15 will get you unlimited access to all of the rides in the amusement park for that day.

Audobon Aquarium of the Americas

The Audobon Aquarium of the Americas is a great, fun-filled place for families to visit if they are looking for something fun and educational. The aquarium features a vast array of sea life that can be found in the Americas, and many endangered species are housed here as well. From the white alligator to the baby shark touch tank, families can enjoy all full day here.

Lodging

There are several hotels located in casinos, but those are more for adults than children. If you are looking for a hotel that offers amenities specifically focused on the whole family, you should definitely check out the Holiday Inn Superdome and the Hotel Indigo.

Holiday Inn Superdome

The Holiday Inn Superdome is located within walking distance to the great Superdome of New Orleans. If you are in town to watch a game or visit local attractions, this is the hotel for you. The whole family can enjoy a nice dip in the outdoor swimming pool, if you are visiting during the warmer months of the year.

Hotel Indigo

The Hotel Indigo is located in the fabulous Garden District of New Orleans. The best amenity in this hotel is the streetcar that will take you to any of the local family attractions for a mere $1.25 per person. The local attractions include the aquarium and amusement parks.

Dining

When traveling with the family, it is nice to find restaurants that cater to both children and adults. There are several restaurants in the area that have ways to keep the children entertained while the adults enjoy a nice relaxing meal.

Daisy Dukes Restaurant

The Daisy Dukes Restaurant is located just around the corner from the aquarium. The restaurant is extremely affordable, and the menu selection is perfect for all ages. Crawfish, po-boys and a 24 hour breakfast menu are all options on the menu at Daisy Dukes.

Bubba Gump Shrimp

Bubba Gump Shrimp is a fabulous restaurant to order from if you enjoy strolling through the city on foot. The restaurant is located just around the corner from the French Quarter attractions and Jackson square. This restaurant is just the place to go if you want a light meal during an afternoon tour.

New Orleans is filled with family activities just waiting to be discovered. Take time to enjoy a day out with the family, or you can just sit around the hotel and soak up the use of the amenities. Either way that you decide to go, your family is sure to have the time of their lives.
