How to Get Around in Miami

When arriving in beautiful Miami, you might wonder what exactly there is to do and how you want to get around. There are a few different ways, although it really depends where in the city you are and what you want to do. Miami is separated into different sections, so you need to be aware of where your hotel is and what it is you want to do. From there, it is rather easy to get around, just make sure you have the extra cash to spend.

Location

Before you dive into the best ways to get around, you need to know about the actual locations of everything. If you have never been to Miami before, it is easy to become confused a bit. When you book a hotel in downtown Miami, you might naturally believe that you are close to the beach and the exciting nightlife. That assumption, while it makes sense, is wrong. In fact, downtown Miami is probably a 20 to 30 minute cab ride to the beach, depending on the hotel and the loop you have to take to get onto the highway to get to the beach. South Beach, which is the heart of Miami's nightlife, is an island off the coast of Florida. Due to this, you really need to know where your hotel is and what it is that you want to do.

Rental

One of the best options available to you is to simply rent a car. If you are going to be in the city for a long period of time, renting a car is easier and is going to be less expensive. This way, you can drive from your hotel to the beach or take in a sporting event without having to wait around for the public transportation. Plus, if you have a little extra money to spend, you can rent out a high-end sports car. This is a popular activity to do and even locals rent out Lamborghinis and Porsches for a day, just to impress.

Taxi

Taking a cab is the next best way for getting form one location to another, especially if you are tight on time. The eclectic mix of ethnicities and cultures inside of Miami brings together a melting pot of individuals, and some of the best conversations you are going to have in Miami are likely to take place with your cab driver. While they know of all the shopping districts and tourist attractions, make sure to ask them about their favorite restaurants. You might hear of a little gem in Little Havana or somewhere else that serves up authentic food you simply would not find anywhere else in the city.

Bus Line

By far, the bus line is the cheapest option. However, as is the case with really any city, if you are not familiar with the bus line it is difficult to stay on track. If you have extra time, feel free to check out the bus, but if not, go with a different option.
